about

I wrote Old Mountain Road two years ago when I was driving with a friend on a road trip to Vermont. We crossed the New Hampshire-Vermont border and stopped at this small town White River Junction. It was quiet, peaceful, a perfect day. And as we got back in the car and drove into the rolling green mountains, the lyrics “green rolling hills so far away, take me in your arms to stay” came to me. I began to write down what I could hear in my mind as the anthem, the theme song for this beautiful place. I had never been to this region before and it took me by surprise - the bright green mountain ridges and the fresh air were intoxicating. We eventually arrived at our rustic AirBNB cabin, resting along the banks of Lake Champlain. The rest of our friends arrived and we set up a campfire - and that is when I finished the song. “Old Mountain Road” is the road we took to get to the cabin. I hope that the song transports the listener to those “green rolling hills” and “Champlain tide” from that rustic cabin on the shore, to a summer in New England or wherever their memory takes them...on a journey of peace and wild freedom.

lyrics

Old mountain road

Winding down the eastern pine

I lost all sense of time

And I’ve come home

Old mountainside

We drive past daisies by the by

Release these heavy chains of mine

I’ll be alright

Running north into the wild pale blue sky

Getting high on borrowed time

And I’m alive

Yesterday’s a worn out tune we played

And tomorrow is gonna be a brand new day

Green rolling hills so far away

Take me in your arms to stay

Old mountain road

Old riverside

Winding down the dirt road drive

My lonely friend and I

We’ll be alright

Old Champlain tide

Lay me down by your side

Where there’s mountains in the distance

I’ve come home

Running north into the wild, pale blue sky

Getting high on borrowed time

And I’m alive

Yesterdays a worn out tune we played

And tomorrow is gonna be a brand new day

Green rolling hills so far away

Take me in your arms to stay

Old mountain roads

Old Champlain tide

Lay me down by your side

Where there’s mountains in the distance

I’ve come home
